Minister Kollie Reassures Liberia’s Commitment To Fight Trafficking


Liberia’s Labor Minister and Chairman of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce, Hon. Chief Moses Y. Kollie    on Monday, September, 16,2019 reassured the gathering of  Liberian-American senior level government officials about his Country’s commitment  under President George Manneh Weah, to combating Trafficking In-Person (TIP); terming the practice of trafficking as an “unacceptable human rights violation”.

According to a dispatched from Washington, DC, USA, Minister Kollie, used the platform to inform the gathering that among the notable actions taken by  President Weah’s administration towards the  fight against Trafficking, is the demonstration of political will by signing into law, the second National Action Plan (NAP) on Trafficking in March, 2019 for which, implementations started on July 1,2019.

In his deliberations at the fourth (4th) session of the U. S. -Liberia Partnership Dialogue held Washington DC, USA,  Minister Kollie said, the Taskforce under his watch as Chairman, has also taken tangible  steps with the support of the  President, in the areas of preventing the continual occurrence of trafficking, ensuring the protection and safety of victims; if it ever occurred, prosecution  of alleged traffickers as well as strengthens collaborations and partnerships with relevant internal and external actors in the fight against trafficking. All these, he noted, are  pivotal to the overall success in the fight against trafficking.

At the same time, the Liberian Labour Minister has outlined major efforts the Ministry is taking proactive steps gear at promoting an all inclusive workforce and environment as well as promote decent work and economic growth while at the same time, addressing youth unemployment through skills development for gainful employment.

Minster Kollie said, as part of these efforts, his Ministry is working with employers to ensure that employments are done without discrimination based on disabilities or any special need of a person. He announced that, plans are on the way to review steps to be taken by employers to ensure that their workplaces are environmentally friendly for both everyone irrespective of physical conditions
