Labour Minister Cllr. Gibson Wants Zogoes Rehabilitated For The Job Market…


Monrovia, January 14, 2021… The Minister of Labour Cllr. Charles H. Gibson says if Zogoes are trained and brought back into the labour market they can contribute immensely to the                                                       development of the country. “It is our responsibility to take care of them and as such, we at the Ministry of Labour know that if those people are trained and brought back into the job market, they can contribute immensely to the development of the country.”

Minister Gibson disclosed that the issue of Zogoes in the country are now affecting a sizeable amount of productive workforce that is been wasted. He lamented that those people need training, rehabilitation and be brought back into the job market either as carpenters, masons and farmers.

The Labour Ministry boss made the statement when the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Ren Yisheng paid him courtesy call at his Labour Ministry office in Monrovia on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Gibson Minister used the occasion to call on the Chinese Ambassador to help attract investment for the country in the area of agriculture as a means of creating employment opportunity for Liberians and food production. “We at the Ministry of Labour will appreciate you attracting investment in this sector; it will help with the issue of rural migration and will make the urban area stable, independent and productive. The President is concerned about investment in the agriculture sector and is encouraging potential investors to invest, He added.

Speaking further, Minister Gibson outlined major constraints and limitations in the monitoring and enforcement of the labour laws in ensuring that workers are protected and workplaces are peaceful. “We appreciate your understanding of our situation, constraints and limitations. We at the Ministry of Labour have some constraints when it comes to logistics in terms of vehicle (4 X 4), motorcycles and computers. The Ministry has offices in all of the fifteen counties supervised by Labour Commissioners with support from Labour Inspectors and they are involved with the enforcement of the labour laws and promotion of industrial peace harmony. We will highly appreciate your government support in helping us to monitor and ensure harmony in the workplace through the provision of logistics,” He asserted.

The Labour Minister promised his Ministry’s preparedness in collaborating with the Chinese Embassy to improve international security, workplace environment, workers welfare and the fight against human trafficking and child labour.

Minister Gibson then thanked Amb. Yisheng for the visit and note that he look forward to a continuous and fruitful collaboration between the Embassy and the Ministry of Labour.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, Amb. Ren Yisheng thanked the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Labour for the support and assistance being provided to Chinese workers and investments in the country.

Amb. Yisheng assured the Minister of Labour of his government commitment in helping to strengthen cooperation in the Labour sector, especially as it relates to the adherence to the Labour laws and regulations of Liberia by Chinese investments.

He said that China is encouraging more Chinese Investors to come and invest in Liberia noting “I am happy that Chinese are coming into the country to establish their own businesses. I look forward to more of such meetings with the Ministry to discuss issues relating to the labour sector which is key to strengthening our brotherly cooperation.”
